The redoubtable Ms E joined me for the second time in the studio recently. Last time we saw her, she was just learning to hold up her head, and now she’s sitting! And I think she will crawl very soon, too, which means walking isn’t far behind.
It doesn’t matter how often I photograph the “under one set,” I will always be in awe of the changes a person goes through in twelve short months. I understand completely why parents want to capture portraits of their babies several times in their first year, because there will never be another time of such rapid and complete change. This morning I photographed an 8 day old, and to think that in 350 days, give or take, a child could go from tiny mewls and crossed eyes and seven tiny pounds to such a bouncing big girl to a toddler, walking, is phenomenal, and a gift of nature.

Anyway, Ms E is of course not talking yet, and it wasn’t until the session was over that we cottoned on to the fact that she really doesn’t like to be au naturelle, thanks very much. She was sooo content once we started dressing her up! She is just an adorable little girl, and one of the lights in her parents’ eyes. (She has the most adorable big brother, too, who really liked my little bathtub even though it wasn’t his turn for photos…)
