Anyone who knows me a little knows I am animal crazy. Anyone who knows me well knows I would totally do what this nutbar guy is doing–I would jump at the chance.
My life dream was to work on language acquisition with chimps, and my other dream has always been to spend time in Gombe, Tanzania.
But I am also not that discriminating. I still yearn after the experiences in the book/movie “Born Free.” I can sit and stare at a troop of long-tailed macaque monkeys in 100 degree heat in Bali or a troop of baboons in Tanzania for long after my mates have gone blind from sweat and boredom. Like idjits, Joy and I stalked (wild) ostriches on a South African beach (and they can pretty well kick you dead). I can stare at birds for hours…I think I took about 3000 shots of weavers building nests when we were in Africa. I must have just as many of hornbills. As a teenager, I slept with my pet racoons (and still have a hickey on my neck from one of them). I had snakes and preying mantises in jars, and robin eggs under grow lights, pet mice, and a hawk and owl in cages. I was friends with a rat in university.
