Here is another assortment of images of the ballerina, M, who visited the studio ten days before her due date. You’ll remember her from earlier posts at Spanish Banks beach and around Commercial Drive. Scroll down to find those, if you haven’t already seen them. Now she is just about ready to pop! Can’t wait to photograph the newborn.
I tried many out of the ordinary things during this session, so it’s a big share in order that other women can get an idea of possible shots.
We’re getting down to the wire in the 2009 Food Bank drive now! If you’re here, please leave a comment and I’ll donate $1 to the Vancouver Food Bank to feed the less fortunate. People really need your help, so please take a minute and tell us your thoughts on these images.
The swirling fabric one is a long exposures shot on a tripod at about 1-3 seconds. Don’t you just love it? So soft and sensuous and just, well, pretty.

These next images are done with nothing to light them except a flashlight. It's called "painting with light" because of its soft, painterly quality. We could have played for hours, I think! M's partner, C, helped out with the light painting while I took care of the delayed shutter (for these, exposures lasted about a minute).

This next series speaks about M’s decision to retire from ballet–and put dance behind her as she embarks on the new excitement of motherhood. Each set of toe shoes has the names and dates of the ballets in which she wore them inscribed on the soles; these were worn just last year for the last time to dance for Ballet BC in….

This next series is a series of dance/yoga poses, and some poses with her partner, C:

And to finish off with, a portrait:

Good luck with your upcoming labour, M and C!
